Friends of the Hillsborough Food Pantry
"Raise the Roof" fund
The Hillsborough Food Pantry was organized in the late 1980's in a small space on West Main Street.
In 2002 the current building at 7 Church Street was donated by Banknorth.
Today the Hillsborough District Food Pantry is run by 55 volunteers who gather on Tuesday evenings to provide 90 - 100 local families with portions of their weekly food, meat when possible, personal hygiene products and paper goods.
The Hillsborough Clothing Closet, operated by a separate group of five volunteers, occupies the second floor of the building. The Closet provides donated clothing to anyone who needs it, including clothes, shoes, coats and seasonal items. A few toys, books and games are available but due to the unsafe conditions, children are unable to accompany their parents, limiting the number of people in need who can access this area.
Inadequate Storage Space
Just looking at pictures of the current building makes it obvious there is much to be desired in both appearance and function, but most of all, safety. The volunteers ask for your support in providing a safe and clean evironment in an efficient structure with adequate storage and sufficient workspace.
The Friends of the Hillsborough Food Pantry was formed in 2008 to rebuild the Hillsborough District Food Pantry.
The estimated total cost of the ambitious project is $200,000. All labor and manpower ($100,000) to rebuild the structure has been generously pledged by our local contractors and businesses.
The remaining $100,000 is needed to purchase construction materials, supplies and appliances.
